FLINTA* individuals are severely underrepresented as participants in popular music. To help foster a balanced gender ratio in the music industry, the association aims to use the WD42 project to create opportunities focused on empowering, connecting, and raising the visibility of FLINTA individuals in music culture and the music industry.

Our festival—a hybrid of a workshop oasis, networking lounge, concert experience, and party night—held its fifth edition from November 20–23 and once again transformed the Bremen neighborhood into a hub of empowerment for a vibrant, diverse music scene.

For the fourth time, Musikszene Bremen e.V. celebrated female and queer artists with a diverse program of concerts, workshops, and discussions.

Workshops and live music at the Lagerhaus Cultural Center and the surrounding area
Partying, strolling, discovering new things—we love festivals! But why are FLINTA* musicians still the exception on, off, and behind German stages? What’s the problem?
The WD42 Festival returned for its fourth edition from November 22–24, featuring a well-organized program in and around the Lagerhaus cultural center to break down entrenched gender stereotypes and celebrate the shift toward a gender-equitable music scene. Through workshops, we provided FLINTA individuals with a space for exchange and empowerment. For other program events, the motto was explicitly: All Genders Welcome!

2023
In its “Winter Edition” on November 11–12, 2023, the WD*42 Festival primarily provided a platform for professional development and networking. Whether it was exploring careers in event and sound engineering, learning DJ skills, or getting started in music production with Ableton, empowerment was at the heart of this year’s festival. Of course, this edition wouldn’t have been complete without live music at the Zollkantine.
2022
The second WD42 Festival took place on August 20, 2022. More than eight artists and bands performed that day, both outdoors and indoors. A clear demand dominated the event: the representation of Flinta at all levels of the music industry. This means sending a strong message and taking matters into their own hands to create an alternative to the traditionally male-dominated open-air festivals. It’s a step toward gender equality.
2021
As the first audible and visible kickoff of the project, the association hosted the WD42 Festival on July 16 and 17, 2021, at the open-air venue of the Bremen music scene, the Sommerhaven. We focused on the power of women in music who perform in these largely male-dominated fields—whether on stage, behind the scenes in technical roles, or in organizational capacities.
